Fresh Biological Association

Fresh Biological Association

The Freshwater Biological Association promotes freshwater science through innovative research, specialist scientific facilities, a programme of scientific meetings, production of publications, and provision of sound independent scientific opinion. The FBA has two scientific centres: one on the shore of Lake Windermere, Cumbria; the other alongside the River Frome at East Stoke, Dorset.

Did you know?

Most poisonous

There are lots of contenders here – possibly the pretty red and blue rove beetle Paederus – very, very tiny amounts of its poison have been used to cure chronic ulceration in people. Ladybirds are pretty poisonous (and pretty) and can bleed foul-tasting poisonous brightly coloured blood from their knees.
