National Insect Week returns in 2020
Saturday, June 16, 2018 - 10:00 to 12:30
The Buckinghamshire Invertebrate Group (BIG), BBOWT and the Upper Thames branch of Butterfly Conservation welcome beginners to moth trapping, families and interested members of the public to meet us to examine moths trapped on National Moth Night.
College Lake is BBOWT’s flagship reserve in Bucks. It has calcareous grassland, fields managed for rare arable weeds, wetland habitats and woodland margins.
We welcome beginners to moth trapping, families and interested members of the public to meet us to examine moths trapped the previous night. We will have some interesting moths captured the previous night in other traps on display, a number of traps will be opened at intervals to demonstrate use of moth traps and give access to the moths they hold. BC will provide identification sheets so that participants can have a go at identifying the moths on display (and then get your id confirmed by experts).
Directions: Meet at College Lake main car park, which is 2 miles N of Tring on the B488 heading out of Bulbourne just after the canal bridge on the left. Grid Ref: Car Park entrance at SP93521388 (satnav HP23 5QG). Please note that College Lake welcomes a donation of £3 if you use their car park.
